I am an abstract expressionist as well as representational artist. The use and manipulation of natural elements, color and texture drive my work. I began painting with watercolor in 1996, endeavoring to be a “purist” in transparent watercolors, but soon expanded into use of opaque watercolors, acrylic, soft pastels, polymer mediums, oil and other mixed media to result in layered texture, form and color. I hope my work opens a dialogue, so that the viewer wants to touch the surface, and that my art will raise more questions than it answers.” Major influences include teachers James Kirk, Skip Lawrence, as well as the modern and classic painters J. M. W. Turner, Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebauld, Chuck Close, Matisse and many more. I hope to open a dialogue with the viewer, so that the viewer wants to touch the surface, and that my art will raise more questions than it answers.”
